TRON launches mandatory mainnet upgrade with EVM enhancements, stronger security, and an August 16 node update deadline.
TRON has rolled out a mandatory mainnet upgrade that introduces a wide range of protocol, security, and developer improvements.
The new GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 release, known as Pyrrho, moves the blockchain closer to Ethereum compatibility while strengthening its infrastructure.
Node operators now face an August 16 deadline to complete the upgrade and avoid synchronization issues.
The update also brings changes to APIs, monitoring tools, and event services across the network.
TRON Mainnet Upgrade Sets August Deadline for Node Operators
TRON DAO announced on X that GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 has entered production and requires every node operator to upgrade before August 16, 2026.
GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 (Pyrrho) has been officially released.
This is a mandatory upgrade. Node operators should upgrade by August 16, 2026, 23:59 SGT to avoid disruption to block synchronization.

Nodes that miss the deadline could experience block synchronization disruptions after the network transition.
The official release identifies the update as mandatory and focuses on protocol hardening, Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility, and operational improvements.
It also introduces changes designed to improve security and network reliability.
The release continues TRON’s effort to align its virtual machine with Ethereum’s Osaka and Pectra upgrades.
Those additions remain controlled through on-chain governance, meaning installing the software alone does not activate every execution feature.
TRON also instructed operators using the Event Plugin to install version 3.0.0 before migrating to the new node software. Older plugin versions will not work with the updated release.
Ethereum Compatibility Expands Through TVM Enhancements
The update adds the CLZ instruction to the TRON Virtual Machine, giving developers a native operation for counting leading zero bits.
The change reduces execution costs for several advanced computing tasks while improving efficiency. TRON also introduced a secp256r1 signature verification precompile.
This feature supports hardware-backed authentication systems, including Apple Secure Enclave, Android Keystore, and WebAuthn compatible devices.
Another improvement deploys a historical block hash storage contract that extends block hash availability beyond the previous 256-block limit.
This helps developers building stateless clients and Layer 2 applications.
The upgrade also tightens MODEXP execution rules, adjusts energy pricing, and standardizes signature verification inputs.
These changes target safer execution while keeping compatibility with Ethereum standards.

API, Monitoring, and Event Services Receive Major Improvements
Pyrrho replaces the legacy Fastjson framework with Jackson across the node software.
The migration strengthens internal security while keeping existing API behavior compatible for most users.
The release also retires InfluxDB monitoring support and standardizes metrics collection through Prometheus.
Operators upgrading existing infrastructure must migrate their monitoring setup before deployment.
TRON introduced stronger HTTP and JSON-RPC validation, optional non-blocking API rate limiting, and improved request handling.
These updates aim to improve performance during periods of heavy network activity.
According to the official announcement and supporting documentation, the release also upgrades the Event Plugin to version 3.0.0 and adds improved chain reorganization handling for event subscribers.
Those changes help developers maintain accurate event data after network reorganizations.
